The start of this particular week marks a very important week in comedy: it’s the beginning of the first annual Janelle James Comedy Festival at The Bell House in Brooklyn. We spoke about Ms. James some time ago, and since then her expansive comedy grew even larger – we’re here to fill you in.
The Janelle James Comedy Festival continues the comedic-momentum of the decade-long, “sincere-and-ironic” Eugene Mirman Comedy festival, which concluded last December. The Festival spans from Tuesday, December 4th through Thursday, December 6, with each night titled by all-too-relatable names: “Comedians Who Live Nearby,” “Well Who All Goin Be There?” and “Comedians Who Said Sure, I’ll Come By.” In true Janelle James fashion, she seems to be delightfully casual about the whole thing, trusting that the experienced line-up will pack the house (spoiler alert: it definitely will).
Much like her distinctive and varied humor, the festival hosts a diverse and well-known line up in order to showcase the breadth of the community in New York. She plans to add her own spin on each year’s festivities, and is starting by featuring her close comedian friends, many of which we’ve featured on Stellar Underground. With her finger on the pulse of the New York comedy scene, James created a line up of charismatic people that are sure to deliver.
Spare yourself the second-thoughts and save $5 by buying your tickets prior to the day-of. Visit the Janelle James Comedy Festival website to purchase tickets, and keep an eye on your comedy-news-source to join in the pre-festival hype.
