A Good Year for Emmy Blotnick

As 2018 begins to wind down, we reflect on the what’s what and who’s who of comedy – and we can certainly say that 2018 has been a good year thus far for New York based writer and comedian, Emmy Blotnick. This year she secured TV spots on Conan, the Late Show and a half hour special on Comedy Central, and if you haven’t seen her yet, it’s safe to say you’ll be seeing a lot more of her soon.

Unlike many comedians, Blotnick isn’t bursting with energy on the stage. She speaks slowly and articulately and smiles through her entire set. She plays on a calm and purposefully awkward yet confident demeanor to deliver unexpected and dark punch lines. Blotnick isn’t afraid to admit that she isn’t cool in the traditional sense of the word and juxtaposes her seemingly innocent personality with outrageous quips. She strategically plays with intonation to deliver her jokes and manages to keep the audience engaged and hanging onto her every word.

Rather than commiserating to come across as relatable, Blotnick taps into the audience’s inner introvert and discusses topics like her ideal weekend night, her niche interests and her distaste for Instagram-bait-like activities. She blends bits about her personal life with observational humor and highlights the world around her through her self-proclaimed “tired, Jewish woman” eyes. On stage, she manages to incorporate crowd work throughout her performance and impressively brings her rehearsed set and her on-the-fly jokes full circle every time.

If you’re in New York, then you’re in luck: Emmy Blotnick regularly performs at shows around the city, trying out new material and interacting with intimate audiences. If you’re not in New York, check out her material online, on Comedy Central, and stay tuned to check out her inevitable appearances on TV shows near you!
