Tyler Fischer: The Man, The Show, The Most Fun

You may not know him, but your favorite comedian probably does – actor, writer, prankster and stand-up comedian, Tyler Fischer, has been in the spotlight for quite some time. His resume is more like a laundry list of achievements that most comedians strive for, and ranges from TV appearances (yes, plural) to mentions in the New York Times, and, thankfully, headlining and producing regular comedy shows across New York City. Last week, I attended one of his regularly hosted shows where he inadvertently stole the show.

Out of all the shows he produces and hosts, and among his spots in comedy club lineups, his free monthly show aptly called The Tyler Fischer Comedy Show makes the list as one of the best shows to catch in New York City. Fischer puts forth a Herculean effort to make sure the lineup is name-drop worthy and the room is packed, there are often sponsors for the show (read: free bites and drinks) and there is always at least one surprise guest each time. The show is usually hosted at WeWork’s Bryant Park Ballroom, and the show I got to see most recently featured Jo Firestone, Sean Donnelly, Gary Vider, Sasheer Zamata and surprise guest, Mark Normand.

In a few words, the show could be characterized as intimate, hysterical, unconventional, exceptionally catered and an event that makes you wonder when and where the next one is happening.

Throughout the show, Fischer rolled with the punches: when the next comedian was running late, he extended his performance; when the microphone cut out, he offered up free beer and kept the show going by encouraging comedians to speak loudly, sans microphone. He acknowledged the awkward, made light of the serious, and showcased his energetic and relatable comedic style each time he spoke. An expert with observational humor, Fischer incorporated both longer story style jokes and off the cuff improvised one-liners into his routine, making the show seem more like a party and less like a rehearsed production.

Tyler Fischer is a busy, busy man. When he’s not busy producing his big-name monthly shows, he’s hosting his twice-a-month shows at Bluebird in Brooklyn, and performing at popular comedy clubs around the city. To catch him livening up a room near you, follow him on Facebook and 100% sign up for his mailing list on his website ( to find out about his latest and greatest.
