Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending Will Abeles' comedy album release party for his new album Regrets of My Father at The Rockaway Brewing Company in Long Island City. The event, which felt like a celebration of friends and family more than anything else, also contained performances by Yedoye Travis, Joe Pera, Caitlin Peluffo, Ali Kolbert, and Alex Grubard.
The vibes were all around great and the crowd was one of the best in New York—engaged, supportive, and best of all, always ready to laugh. The setting was intimate, as the performers literally stood inches away from the crowd, on a makeshift stage of plywood stacks. The crowd felt as much a part of the show as did the comics.
As for the openers, though all performed very well, Yedoye Travis stole the show in my opinion, tying in some jokes from his recent album as well as some new bangers, or at least ones I hadn’t heard before. Will Abeles headlined, charming the crowd with some older jokes that he had written when he first began doing stand up in college, and showcasing his talents for storytelling (a preview of what to expect on the album). All in all, it was a good time, a great show and the inexpensive beer was definitely a plus!
Congratulations on the release of your album, Will!
